Among the whole amalgam of Balearic products to enjoy on your holidays. The ensaimada stands out above the rest. It still surprises me as there are many visitors who are unaware of its existence.

The ensaimada de Mallorca (from the Mallorcan ensaïmada) is a sweetened, fermented and baked pastry made with flour, water, sugar, eggs, sourdough and lard (which comes from the Arabic saïm, hence the name). It is a traditional confectionery product on the island.

It is usually eaten for breakfast or as a snack. Although any time is a good time to indulge, it is a great pleasure. There are countless bakeries in Mallorca. I recommend the traditional ovens in the villages of Mallorca and always by order from one day to the next.

Two establishments in Palma stand out: Ca’n Joan De S’aigo, which is a classic in the Balearic capital, where you can enjoy other delicacies and above all the ice cream, which is my favourite. The meringue milk ice cream is incredible. This is the place if you want to try them “in situ”.

To take on a trip as a gift, I recommend the Reina María Cristina oven. Remember to always order a day in advance, otherwise they will sell you the one of the day, which is not the same. If you like cream filling: The one with toasted cream is much better for those with a sweet tooth like me.

These are the bakeries I recommend, but the choice is endless. Generally the quality level is very good. Even if you have forgotten, you can always go to the shops at the airport, which, although more expensive, are also very tasty.
